Switch while it plays — both versions stay in sync. Shortcut: B.

Squash is a three-band compressor that squashes the loud parts and lifts the quiet ones at the same time — the effect behind almost every modern trap beat and EDM drop. Leads get dense and shiny, hi-hats and reverb tails come forward, 808s hold a steady level and vocals sit up front. One Depth knob sets how much you hear: 20% gently glues a bus, 50% is the classic modern sheen, 100% is the full squash. Bands are split by phase-compensated Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB/oct filters, so the sum is perfectly flat, and at Depth 0 the plugin passes the signal bit for bit. Each band has its own downward and upward threshold and ratio, gain, Solo and Bypass; Time scales attack and release, and Upward / Downward let you keep just one side. Built-in band makeup holds the loudness, upward gain is capped at +24 dB and fades out in silence, and 2 ms of lookahead stops hits after a quiet passage from spiking. The display shows the spectrum before and after with draggable band splits and a live band-gain curve, and below it three vertical band modules: input and output level history, live lift and cut, and thresholds you grab with the mouse. For trap, drill, EDM and pop producers — on melodies, drums, vocals and buses.
