Beat with 808 (Apology)
148 BPM · D♯m
Switch while it plays — both versions stay in sync. Shortcut: B.
Kick808 makes room for the kick exactly when it hits — and gives it back to the 808 as soon as the kick fades. The default Kick Focus style works like a dynamic EQ, not plain ducking.
With a sidechain (kick sent to the side input, plugin on the 808): the 808's sub dips by Depth dB at the kick's peak and comes back as the kick decays — the duck length follows the kick by itself, so there's no hole in the bass and no pumping. On a beat with Jakub's 808, the kick rises about 12 dB further above the 808 in the 25–120 Hz range than without the plugin. With no routing (kick and 808 on one track, or a bounced beat): the plugin measures the 808's root note and splits the low end just above it — below the Split it ducks the bass on each hit, above it the kick body gets a short Punch boost. The kick stays whole and comes forward (+1.5–2 dB of kick body, 808 sub −3.5 dB at the hit) while overall loudness stays the same.
The kick detector tells the kick apart from snares, claps and hi-hats, and from distorted 808s (bass ripple no longer triggers false hits). Lookahead lines the duck up with the very start of the kick. The Classic style is the old Attack / Hold / Release ducking — for pumping. The display shows the bass before and after, every hit, the reduction and Punch curves, a before / after “Kick over 808” readout, the duck shape and a low-end spectrum with the duck band or Split point.
